Sunspots 961 + 962 - 29th June

Spaceweather.com showed a new sunspot forming, so with 90% cloud cover... I went out to find it. Clicking away through the clouds I got this:

An Iridium flare, Venus and the Moon - 12th June

There was a few hours of clear skies last night, I spent most of it trying to get my EQ3-2 mount to autoguide... with limited success so far. But I managed these two shots in the midst of things. An Iridium flare through Cassiopiea and here's my Moon and Venus pic. I was in an exam for the occultation of Venus, which didn't make the slightest difference seeing as it had been cloudy all day.

Jupiter and moons animation - 12th June

It wasn't intentional, but somehow I ended up spending last night taking pics of Jupiter. I found that using an IR pass filter it would dramatically increase the level of detail you could pick up at the low altitude. It was at 12 degrees altitude when I started, and 16 at the end, so far from great imaging conditions.
I always think that even if you can't get the best picture of something with the conditions/equipment, if you put enough work into it you'll be able to get something worthwhile out of it. One of my favourites in such a case is animations . So 4gb of data, ~5 hours of processing last night and this morning... and here is the result.

ISS + Space Shuttle, and the Andromeda Galaxy - 11th June

Yesterday saw the docking of the Space Shuttle Atlantis and the International Space Station. The pair were to pass overhead at 11:05pm, and as they did I filmed them with my telescope and webcam. There is definitely a change in shape of the ISS. A picture and animation of the pass are available here.
I stayed up into the next morning to get some pictures of the nearby galaxy, M31 - The Andromeda Galaxy. Viewing was not ideal, it was very low in the sky, and I was looking through lots of light pollution and some thin clouds. Nonetheless, there are some dark dust lanes visible in the image and the satellite galaxy M32 is also visible to the left. View the full picture at the deep sky object page here.
